Great Loss of any sort resets the composition of your heart, the action you take in your daily life, and everything you are made of. Grief is an overwhelming wave that you must keep recovering from all the time to keep going. We need vessels to contain things like that and spirit houses to honor those connected but are now lost to us. They all need feeding. We need mementos and altars to tend to the memories that shape us.

This series of reliquary altars are built of found things urning to serve a new purpose.. they are also spirit houses, are also monuments, are memorial shrines, are vessels for transmuting grief. They are meant to hold pieces of both ourselves & those we have loved and lost. They are meant for reverence. Death work and alter making have always been important rituals for me as I believe people live on in our minds, our stories, photos & through our honoring them. Ash into ink and hair saved… Love and connection never dies it just changes form. 

Over the last 2 months I have picked up soldering in an obsessive all encompassing way. I’ve been channeling ancestors within the process of creating these that involves many generations. creating vessels to capture and house both demons & spirit. For trapping harms done that have kept me bound, stunted.. to bury trauma somewhere. To create some place worthy to hold all my sadness and everyone else’s pain too.
